Remembrance Day (A Day to Certainly, Remember)

Remembrance Day is a day to forget about what's going on now and take some time to remember (hence the name) all the soldiers who fought for us to get freedom in our country. Many of them now lay in Flanders Field now. There were a lot of very brave soldiers such as Gordan Bannerman, Roy Heron, Bob Farquharson, Corinne Sevigny, Malcolm Andrade, Jean-Marcel D'Aoust, and much more, but I am going to talk about a very brave and independent woman named Olive May Matthews and her married name was Olive May Peat. She was a wonderful and extraordinary woman.
Olive May Matthews was born in Emerson, Manitoba, 1923. She decided to join the army, Canadian Women's Army Corps (CWAC) because her two brothers were taken POWs in Hong Kong (poor her awww so sad) she had never got to see them before they left, so she joined.
Her exact words on how she joined and why were actually cool and how we would talk...
"Jeez, we all wanted to go, and we had, I had gained the rank of sergeant because I was a, y'know a sergeant in that company, and, but you had to revert to the rank of private to go overseas because you were joining another army. But I finally got my stripes back after two, or nearly two years overseas."
Olive was a clerk typist. There were 5 or 6 clerks in every office and they did typing and mostly keeping track of all the military officers that were overseas. She had a very tough and miserable, well not miserable but yeah hard life. Every second of all those soldiers were tough. I mean if you take to consider all the things that the soldiers have done for us, just for us to live happily, it's pretty amazing and very considerate and thoughtful. Mrs. Peat had to work for $5 a month and got Wednesday afternoon off or Thursday afternoon was maid's day off. I mean all that hard work that they are doing and they get paid $5 dollars a month. They also do housework for $5 a month. It's so, well fire-eating.
If I think back to when it was Remembrance Day was, well I would first think of my birthday, but then I would think of how thankful we are for having a more peaceful land than before and it's all thanks to the soldiers who lay in Flander Field. I am not joking I really love Remembrance Day, not just because of my birthday, but the time you get to feel and thankful and feel how the soldiers felt in WW1 and WW2. If I was a soldier I couldn't even imagine my life. To have a life so cruel would be... suicidal! I really am greatful to live in CANADA!!!
And here the poem goes,

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

hey,

I'm Running!!!!

Hey guys... go green ova here. anyways... I was thinking if you guys have any ideas for a different title for my blog that fits me because I want something different other than GREEN! Even if I like the colour green which I do obviously. Anyways off topic so what should I post about this time... hmmmmm. ... oh by the way I'm running for secretary so please vote for me! I will do a good job. Remember... "A vote for Sarranya is a vote for success!" I know it's corny, but that's the only thing that I could think of for now... if you have any other better slogans that use my name please tell me. I need a good one badly. Although my brother says it's good, but then again... he might be lying so that everyone could laugh at me. Anyways... right a topic to talk about... lets see. Still thinking... still thinking... still thinking 10 minutes later... oh I got it. I'm going to talk about me being a secretary and what secretaries do since I already started talking about it. Here I go.
A secretary is a person, usually an official, who is in charge of the records, correspondence, minutes of meetings, and related affairs of an organization, company, association, etc (In this case school secretary). It's a person employed to handle correspondence and do routine work in a business office, usually involving taking dictation, typing, filing, etc. Now I got this from the dictionary so this isn't my real words... but here are my real words. A secretary is a person who is usually, I mean needs to be organized and neat. They take care of certain duties like typing, filing, and taking notes in meetings (As it says above). Secretaries can be in companies, offices, and even in schools which is what I'm running for. (So please vote for me! =D)

At SAM there are 4 positions that you can run for. President (which mostly a grade 8 gets), Vice President(which grade 7's have a chance of getting it), Secretary, and Treasurer (which usually grade 7's get). I want to run for secretary for two reasons.
  1. It's on the safe side since usually grade 7's get it.
  2. I'm have good skills for a secretary (not to brag... no bragging here... I don't like braggers or bragging).Like I'm organized, creative, I write and type fast, ... oh and I have experienced leadership and office skills because I was a house league captain and office helper.
I am already part of SLC because I am your class rep (thank you so much for choosing me), but I want to try something new and boost up my leadership skills as I said in my old class rep speech. Well, that's pretty much all I have to say so...

VOTE 4 ME!!!

Eco Friendly

Being Eco friendly means a lot of things. It means

Here are 5 tips on how to be Eco friendly around your house. We can all make a difference!!!

Turn things off - This tip sounds so simple, yet it's rarely done. You can save energy by simply flipping a switch. At S.A.M the green team is trying to do this. What we are doing is that we the grade 7's and 8's go at lunch time and go to every room in the school and see if all the lights are off. Try doing this for 30 days, you can turn off appliances, lights, and so on. When they are not in use it develops a new energy saving habit.

Take Shorter Showers - When you take a shower, specifically log showers, which means you are wasting a whole lot of water while taking a shower and yes that means staying in the shower for so long because it feels so good in there (I do that sometimes if I'm really tired, but I'm trying to stop) it wastes a lot of water that can be used more more useful reasons. Obviously shorter showers use less than log luxurious and relaxing showers. As a matter of fact baths in a shallow tub are more efficient because you’re using a fixed amount of water. If we take at least only 1 minute for each person off our shower time we will definitely save water.

Clean your Refrigerator Coils - Fridges are energy hogs (not trying to be mean). An easy way to help make your fridge run more efficiently is to clean the coils. If they're covered with some nasty and gross 'gunk' they can't work the way they should, and your refrigerator won't run longer and more often. Once or twice a year you’ll need to turn your refrigerator off and to clean those coils. Cleaning those coils enables your refrigerator to operate more efficiently.

Put On a Sweater - Finding an optimal temperature is a challenge in itself, but reducing the thermostat a few degrees can reduce use as well as raising your temperature when cooling. If you wear a sweater you will become warm and won't need the thermostat. If you don't like to wear sweaters or heavy layers, try reducing the degrees of the thermostat. In the winter, set your thermostat at 68 degrees during the daytime and 55 degrees during night time. In the summer keep it at 78 degrees. If you lower your thermostat degrees by just two degrees during the winter time it saves 6% of heating-related CO2 emissions. You may think that 6% is not a lot, but think again. By doing this it's a reduction of 420 pounds of CO2 per year for any typical house.

Wash Full Loads of Clothes in Cold Water - Most detergents work well with cold water. They even have specific detergents designed to work in cold water. In fact, washing clothes in cold water allows fabrics to retain their colour and strength longer. Even if you wash with warm water, you’re saving more energy then if you were washing in hot water. Warm water can be substituted for hot water, but only if you are willing to take the risk... JUST KIDDING!!! Substituting warm water doesn't really do anything but save energy.

So there you have it, these few tips for environmentally friendly living can be done by anyone that wants to make a difference for the environment. These small changes can make a big impact on the environment and impact the environment greatly. Go GREEN!!!
